Participating in the European Day of Languages (September 30th, 2025)

On the 30th of September, I participated in my school’s, Vilnius Lyceum’s, celebration of the European Day of Languages, an event aimed at promoting multilingualism and cultural diversity. As part of the event, me and my friends sung ABBA’s song Waterloo in three different languages—French, English, and German—highlighting the beauty of linguistic variety and encouraging fellow students to appreciate different cultures.

Me and my other 5 friends were responsible for organizing and planning the performance —selecting a song that could be performed in multiple languages, scheduling rehearsal times, and learning to sing it accurately. On the day of the event, we faced an unexpected challenge: instead of two microphones, there was only one available. We had to quickly come up with a solution so that all five performers could sing in a large hall while still sounding harmonious and engaging.

Time: 1 hour

Learning Outcome Adressed: LO3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.

This activity allowed me to combine my interest in music with my desire to serve the school community. Singing Waterloo in multiple languages not only improved my linguistic and performance skills but also helped me engage peers in celebrating cultural diversity. I gained a deeper appreciation for how language can connect people and convey emotion across cultural boundaries.
