I participated in assisting candidates during interviews at the Kazickas Family Residence as part of the ASSIST program. My role involved welcoming participants as they arrived, helping them feel calm and prepared before their interviews, answering their questions, and sharing my own experiences to support them about my exchange year.
This experience required patience, empathy, and strong communication skills. Many participates felt nervous before their interviews, and it was rewarding to help them feel more comfortable and confident. By listening attentively and providing reassurance, I was able to create a supportive environment and make the process less stressful for them.
I also shared my personal experiences with them, which helped the candidates understand what to expect and how to approach the interview. This not only reinforced my own understanding and appreciation of the program but also allowed me to reflect on how guidance and encouragement can make a meaningful difference.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth –Through assisting candidates during the ASSIST interviews, I recognized my strengths in communication, empathy, and supporting others in stressful situations. At the same time, I identified areas for growth, such as improving how clearly and confidently I explain my experiences and adapting my responses to different personalities
